Keeping CALM For Optimal Healing

The mental demands we allow on us in today's society is causing a lot of stress on the body. Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Stresses can be external (from the environment, psychological, or social situations) or internal (illness, or from a medical procedure). WORRY, BURDEN, STRAIN AND MORE: High-pressure jobs, or education, Striving to BE the Jones', Living above pay grades, or your chosen spouse, are a few stresses. Physical pains and injuries, generally come from an emotional challenge, not dealt with. Pile up with environmental toxins, and gives the body so much to deal with, causing stress. I have found that the body naturally heals best it can, all the time. We need to get out of the way, and allow a space for the body to be nurtured, nourished, so it can find balance, heal rapidly, mind, body, spirit. In order to heal the body, and connect mind, body, spirit, we must learn what is stress really. I love grabbing scientific research to back up my whoowhoo ideas, lets consider this to start, I want you to be mindful of the following...considering fight or flight responses. STRESS DEFINITIONS FROM STRESS RESEARCHERS include the following: DISTRESS: physical hardship, pain, torture and starvation. PERCEPTION:the demands that are imposed upon us because there are too many alternatives”. ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: “psychological stress requires a judgment that environmental and/or internal demands exceed the individual’s resources for managing them” quoted from scientists, Holyroyd and Lazarus in their research. EVENTS:Skinner in 1985 defined stress as “a reaction of a particular individual to a stimulus event”. ADAPTIVE RESPONSES: 1988, Eliot concluded that “stress may be viewed as the body’s response to any real or imagined event perceived as requiring some adaptive response and/or producing strain”. UNDERLOAD AND OVERLOAD: In 1990, Steinberg and Ritzmann considered that “stress can be defined as an underload or overload of matter, energy or information input to, or output from, a living system”. MAINTAINING EQUILIBRIUM:1992, Humphrey found that “stress can be considered as any factor, acting internally or externally that makes it difficult to adapt and that induces increased effort on the part of the person to maintain a state of equilibrium both internally and with the external environment”. CHALLENGES:1993, McEwen and Mendelson explained that “stress is a term for certain types of experiences, as well as the body’s responses to such experiences. The term generally refers to challenges, real or implied, to the homeostatic regulatory process of the organism”. STRESSORS: 1996, Levi in his research concluded that “stress is caused by a multitude of demands (stressors), such as an inadequate fit between what we need and what we are capable of, and what our environment offers and what it demands of us”. NEGATIVE EMOTION: 1998, Roger described stress as a “pre-occupation with the negative emotion following the event”. Each one of my clients who walks thru my door presents something different, when it comes to the way they deal with stress. I don't have a bandaid that fits everyone. Literally, what works for one, may not work for another. Also, if its a long term stress, vs short term, and how long has the person been under this stress? How have they managed to take care of their vessel? What is their health protocol? These are all elements to consider when listening to my clients expressing needs. It always comes down to the senses. My hands, eyes, ears, scan, then its about listening and honoring what I see, feel, hear with intention, and precision to aid the body in healing more rapidly, removing obstacles that could be blocking the flow or rate in which you heal. I Trust everything I already know, I remember everything I have already learned...And in the present grounded moment, we move thru a healing journey, reducing stress on the body, and guiding a client to calm. Hands on healing, allows a bridge of connection of sacred skills, putting my client instantly at ease. My hands go in , acknowledging the stress, soothes, and safely guides to health. I ask my clients to actively join in with their own healing breath work, not only to oxygenate the blood, and areas working, it allows the nervous system to chill out! Your breathing allows me to coax your muscles into chilling out too! This way nothing is forced, and we work together. Ultimately, we want to work together so I can help my client better understand, not only their body, but how to honor themselves in the body too. If you are open to it, the results are cumulative long term! To schedule some stress reducing massage or pilates at our Mercer Island location, you may do so at leguerisseurhealingcenter.com
