Why IT IS Important to Take Care Of Yourself
I was observing an older lady getting in and out of her brand new SUV Lexus a few days ago. I was up in my office, looking out over the parking lot. She really caught my attention because it was a brand new vehicle, and she could barely get in and out of it.
I mean, she was really struggling! She looked 65-70 age range. She spent about 20 minutes in the bank, before her very ugly, and ungraceful attempt back into the SUV.
It was TERRIBLE. So sad to see she let herself go, she completely lacked taking care of herself, it was transparent if you are paying attention to more that what she drove up in.
It reminded me of this not so great boyfriend I had, about 8 years ago...
He used to say, "Do you want to be a Ferrari or Ford Escape"
His point, was it doesn't matter what kind of car you drive, if you don't look good yourself, you won't look good in that car...
Now, granted, this guy was a creep, and why I am no longer with him, however, In a slightly different terms/texts... it could be applied as accurate!
You see,
This older gal, probably has money, she drives a new car, and was in the bank for some time. She dressed in nice linens.
She may have worked on her career her who life, preparing for a Cush retirement. And she is successful in this!
BUT...
She never took care of her body, her vessel, her "vehicle".
What QUALITY of life is it that she now has?
YES, she gets to drive a fancy new car, but have you seen her get in and out of that car?
UGLY.
I see PAIN.
I see lack of range of motion.
I see frustration.
I see fat.
I see she gave up on herself, or she never attempted.
I see no SELF-CARE.
I see no SELF-LOVE.
I see recovery taking much longer, than if she had kept up on herself daily with small acts of self care, and self love.
She neglected to take care of herself, and now...
She is the OLD BROKE DOWN Ford Escape!
She IS NOT her new car Lexus that she drives... that is a ruse.
Are you paying attention to yourself?
Your health?
Are you looking years ahead, like you would financially, at what your vessel will be like at retirement?
What kind of car are you driving today? What will that car be in 20, 30, 40, 50 years?
The important thing to remember is that
your health is not something you pay attention to "one day".
Although, most will wait until their trusted DOCTOR suggests paying attention.
Why not be proactive?!
Why not feel great everyday?!
Our health is most important, without it, we have NOTHING.
This is why it is important to take care of yourself...NOW.
It is the little steps we do daily, that add up.
Just like in financial health.
Compound interest.
Think about your wellness like this too.
It is a complete, balanced picture...
as neither are separate from each other, how we do one thing, is how we do all things.
For myself:
I embarked on my health, VERY mindfully at 17.
I was vegan for 6 years.
I ran 2 marathons, and dozens of half marathons.
I still run 3-5 miles a day at nearly 42!
I stretch multiple times a day, I've practiced yoga, and Pilates for 25 years!
I have received regular massages, at least monthly, and other bodywork since the age of 17.
I did all of these things because of the feedback it gave my body... I felt GOOD/BETTER for doing so. I felt the reward instantly.
I was paid in full.
and that is my inspiration for ...
